The Veranda on Highland will turn your next pre-wedding celebration - engagement party, bridesmaid's luncheon, bridal shower, or rehearsal dinner - into an experience you will always remember.

The Veranda on Highland’s charming, historic building is a beautifully renovated Southern home, which dates back to the 1920s. The restaurant is a collection of rooms, varied in size and ideally suited to host private functions from five to 500 people.
For rehearsal dinners, engagement parties, and even receptions, Chef Tom Robey, formerly of Commander's Palace in New Orleans, along with Events Coordinator, Virgina Au, help brides in customizing what will be served at their special event. Tastings such as this are often held in the beautiful and intimate wine cellar (see below), which is also used nightly as the chef's table, where Chef Robey prepares an exquisite six course meal complete with wine pairings.
Upon entering The Veranda, I was surrounded by the warm glow of fireplaces and stained glass windows. After a tour of the 9 beautiful dining rooms, Events Coordinator for The Veranda on Highland, Virginia Au, and I sat down in the sunroom overlooking a gorgeous patio.
To begin my meal, I started with a cup of the soup de jour, which just happen to be my favorite, a spicy rendition of corn bisque. I followed that with a true southerners favorite dish, Gulf Shrimp Served in Traditional Etouffee Sauce with McEwen and Sons Yellow Grits and Green Onion Salad. I finished with a dessert of cheesecake and pralines, a New Orleans specialty. Brides, I can personally guarantee you that the food you will receive at your engagement party or reception will be truly amazing. These two dishes were out of this world. My only regret is not being able to have one of everything on the menu!
I had the privilege of meeting Chef Robey and hearing about the love and passion he has for this beautiful venue. Everything on his menu is fresh and simple. He takes pride in preparing his food with great care, and for that reason, everything is made from scratch...no store bought sauces or base.
The Veranda on Highland is, in my opinion, one of Birmingham's best kept secrets. I would encourage any bride to call Virginia Au for your personal tour of The Veranda so you can see why this Southern home turned restaurant would be the perfect addition to your wedding celebration.
