Brides Against Breast Cancer

Chances are that someone you know and love has been or will be affected by breast cancer.  This disease has reached near-epidemic proportions with over 2.8 million (one in seven) women in America being diagnosed.  While research continues to ramp up in the search for a cure, that goal has unfortunately not yet been reached.

For more information on this wonderful organization and how buying designer wedding dresses can help find a cure for breast cancer, click below.

Making Memories Breast Cancer has found a unique approach to bring joy to terminal breast cancer patients, for whom the research is too late, by granting memory-making wishes.  In 1998 this wonderful organization was founded and has since collected more than 14,000 new and gently worn wedding dresses; half through individual donation and half from shops, designers and dress manufacturers.  Today, the founder, Fran Hansen of Portland, Oregon, travels around the country in a truck and trailer filled with gowns and taking her Brides Against Breast Cancer Charity Wedding Gown Sale to about 36 cities each year.

When the sale comes to town, brides-to-be get to select from among 1,500 to 2,000 gowns, all available at bargain-basement prices.  Gowns valued at up to $4,000 typically sell for $49-$599.  Those originally priced at $4,000 to $10,000 sell for $399 to $999.  A pink breast cancer awareness ribbon is fastened to the interior bodice of each gown.

When roadshows are not scheduled, brides-to-be can visit their warehouse outlet in Charleston, South Carolina where they can find New York style and Southern hospitality.  At the warehouse, brides can browse over 7,000 square feet of racks packed with thousands of bridal gowns (sizes 4-40), veils, headpieces, crinolines, shoes, and other wedding accessories.

M. Elizabeth Weddings & Events is proud to be a part of the Making Memories Organization and is happy to announce that we are among a team of individuals working to bring this wonderful gown sale to Birmingham in late 2010.  For more information on their gown sales or to make an appointment at their Charleston warehouse, click here to be taken to the Making Memories website.
